Please don’t declaw your cats!!!!!!!! Just don’t !!!!
I’m very passionate about animals and stuff and this is one of the issues that seriously needs more exposure in the US.
It’s a harmful operation that is not only cruel and pointless, since you can just trim your cat’s nails or put those little cap things on them if you’re concerned about scratching, but it also causes behavioral problems (biting, peeing all over the house) that cause cats to be abandoned and end up in shelters anyway.
It’s painful for the cat and can even severely affect its ability to walk, play or just live its life normally. The surgery doesn’t just remove the nail, it’s an amputation of the entire last bone of a cat’s toes. Imagine if you cut off the tips of your fingers, starting at the last knuckle on your hand. That’s what declawing is, and it’s mind-blowing that it’s no longer allowed to be performed in so many countries all over the world and yet only cities in some parts of the US have banned the practice.
Veterinarians will actually recommend that you have this done to your pet, to save your furniture, or to keep your cat from scratching people, even though there are easier, less expensive alternatives that are way better for cats and their owners. Vets make shitloads of money off of the surgery, and veterinary associations want to prevent it from being banned because of this. It’s atrocious and I can’t believe that more people don’t know about this.
I looove cats, it’s generic as heck but they’re my favorite pets in the world, my cat, Ashley has been pretty much my best friend since I was a little kid. My parents had her front toes declawed when we got her as a kitten, and I still feel so shitty because of it. I can tell that she walks somewhat strangely, as if it’s uncomfortable for her to put weight on her front paws, and she often pees outside of her litterbox, which is something that a lot of declawed cats do because it’s sometimes too painful for them to dig in the litterbox the way they’re supposed to, so they just end up going on the floor.
I wish my parents and I would have known that Ashley could have had a much better, more comfortable life had we not subjected her to this surgery. Until I got older I had no idea that declawing was so cruel, I just thought all they did was snip off the nails, and I’m sure that’s what tons of other people think when they go to get their pets declawed, too. If people like this were educated on declawing and its effects, I’m very sure that a lot less declawing surgeries would be performed. It really should be banned everywhere, it’s blatant animal cruelty and is only allowed to still exist because vets care more about their paychecks than the well-being of the animals they’re supposed to help, and because people are just plain ignorant. 
I hope this changes some people’s minds and helps spread the word about how gross and awful declawing is, I have like 7k followers now so I might as well use that to do something good. I know there are many cat lovers all over this site and I want this message to reach them ;_; have a good day and sorry for ranting lol

why do you assume that I hate the entirety of 4chan when I’m talking about specific, singular boards that are generally agreed upon, even by most of 4chan, as the worst boards on the site? why is it such a big deal lmao
