Gotta pass the time somehow

I just didn’t really care about Nagisa that much, her character was boring to me so when the entire show, especially after story, pretty much revolves around her it makes it hard for me to enjoy watching it. The art style is kinda goofy too, not as bad as Kanon (the first adaptation) but still kind of distracting because of how alien-like all the characters appear to be with the weird placement and proportions of facial features.
When the show focused on different character arcs it was a lot more interesting to me than when it followed Nagisa, whose only faults as a character include being sick a lot and being somewhat cowardly, and is pretty much adored by everyone unconditionally because she’s just so sweet and pure. I get that she serves as a foil to Tomoya who is brooding and sarcastic so she’s like an angel that swoops down from anime heaven to heal his tortured soul or whatever, but as a character she’s just so dull and predictable and she seems more like an amalgamation of generic cutesy traits than a real person.
The whole thing with Ryou and Kyou liking Tomoya seemed really forced because you never really find out why they like him, they just have to like him because they’re the other girls in the lineup! So they’re attracted to the main character of course! and when they see that Nagisa basically won him they start bawling in the most overdramatic way possible, which is another thing the show does that irks me. The drama always seems so cheap and over the top, it’s always pulling the most insipid tricks out of its ass to pull at the audience’s heart strings, and after a while it’s like it doesn’t even care about telling a cohesive, well thought out story anymore it’s just a shallow attempt at making the audience as sad as possible. Death is sad, unrequited love is sad, isolation is sad, but when the build up to all these things is uninspired and half-assed, the drama falls flat. 
The supernatural elements and the normal school-life elements could have been blended together much more gracefully, I haven’t read the VN in its entirety so I don’t know if it was much better in the original version of the story, but the anime didn’t explain much, and when things like the illusionary world and fuko’s ghost and Nagisa being resurrected by the protagonist gathering up all the dragon balls were introduced, it made the flow of the story kind of awkward.
Those are the biggest reasons why I don’t like clannad I think..
