This is Cameron, a nine year old Maine Coon / Ragdoll mix. We took her in from another family via a rescue.

She has bridging spondylosis, where bone spurs have grown between her last few vvertebrae. The condition is inoperable.  She came with a prescription medication (Medicam), but it was not something she could take long term.  So our vet suggested DevCor Mobility Pro.  Its a sprinkle for cats and dogs to help with pain issues. It is all natural and homeopathic.

She has responded wonderfully. She can jump up and down from things, run, etc. She is also less sensitive about being touched of petted on her back (she would flinch and lash out).

When she first got here, we put her in the half bath so she could get used to her new surroundings. But she would attack if you got near her, and refused to come out.  Its taken her two months to come out, but she stays downstairs and doesn’t interact with the other three.

She came to us so horribly matted that we had to have her shaved down under sedation.

I was trying to be optimistic that she would come around, I even shed a lot of tears over it. She was by far the most difficult cat I had ever met.

But things are really looking up. She doesn’t hide in the bathroom 24/7, she is eating normally, she will take treats out of my hand, and she will (with some resistance) allow me to pick her up and carry her cradled in my arms. I am trying to get her acclimated to the second floor and maybe interact with the others, but I also have to be realistic and know that she has limitations.

So don’t pass up older cats that need homes. They will show you their love once they feel comfortable and safe in their new home. And you never really know what their previous situation was like, and they may come with a lot of baggage.
