Il y a beaucoup de choses à passer en revue dans les jours précédant une sortie extravéhiculaire (EVA), notamment nos outils et l’équipement que nous emmenons avec nous. Voici une nouvelle caméra pour le bras robotique japonais… C’est Shane qui aura la tâche de remplacer l’ancienne par celle-ci. Je l’ai soigneusement préparée et « emballée » pour lui.

The Latching End Effector (LEE) of the Space Station Remote Manipulator System (SSRMS), or in clearer terms: the hand of the robotic arm. A very complex mechanism that allows us to catch the refueling vehicles and repair almost everything on the outside of the station. The rest is done through spacewalks, like tomorrow!

Le LEE du SSRMS, ou en français : la main du bras robotique. Un mécanisme très complexe qui nous permet d’attraper les véhicules ravitailleurs et de réparer presque tout à l’extérieur de la Station. Pour le reste, il y a les EVA (sorties dans l'espace) !

What's so special about this photo? What you see is an erupting volcano and the molten lava is visible from space, at night! These are the red lines, on the left of the photo. Etna, in Sicily, has been active for some time now, I posted a day-time photo recently too.

Quoi de spécial sur cette photo ? On y voit un volcan en éruption et la lave en fusion est visible depuis l’espace, de nuit !! Ce sont les coulées rouges, à gauche de la photo. L’Etna, en Sicile, est actif depuis quelques temps. J’avais posté une photo de jour il y a peu.
