Mon collègue Matthias la célèbrera à distance, il est actuellement aux États-Unis pour les derniers préparatifs avant son décollage vers l’ISS où nous l’accueillerons, lui et son équipage. Il prendra sans doute de nombreuses photos de l’Allemagne ! Voici tout de même Cologne et le Centre Européen de Astronautes, près de l’aéroport, où nous avons débuté notre carrière. Un autre monument célèbre de la ville : la cathédrale, dont les deux tours sont si hautes qu'on voit leurs ombres s'étendre sur les environs.

Germany by night, the Alps and Northern Italy. Today is German Unity Day, but German astronaut Matthias Maurer is in the USA, preparing to leave Earth and join us up here on the Space Station. I am sure he will be taking many nice pictures of Germany so I will leave that to him next month. This is Germany at night and a zoom on Cologne by day where we both live and trained as with all ESA astronauts to be ready to go to space. The European Astronaut Centre is clearly visible close to the airport. And the cathedral towers of Cologne are so tall that you see their shadows.
