I got this question a couple of days ago. I replied “My family would not approve/understand of what I do here. I.e., the fear of what people I know in real life (what is that anyway?) will think.”

In reality this is probably quite irrational and self-centered. That is, it suggests that 1) I think myself to be so consequential in other Tumblr users’ worlds that they would take the time to discover my real identity, and then do something untoward with that information.

Or, that 2) a photo of me would become so popular that it would somehow appear on the screen of one of my conservative Christian family’s computer.

When I think about it a little more though, number 1 is much less likely than number 2…most of my conservative Christian family are probably lurking on more porn/alternative sites than most other ‘liberal’ sexually open people. In the shadows is the only place they can play.

And getting back to me not showing my face….yes, I would rather not dodge them in the shadows, concealing my face in the process. But for all their failings and secret lives, I love them and don’t want them to feel uncomfortable.

*says I realizing fully that they realistically probably wouldn’t stumble upon this blog…but irrational fears are still fearful*
