New developments in the Lithuanian child abuse affair

lundi 21 mai 2012 à 21:52

Joint translation (thanks to @4k45h3d0, Bossa, moebius_eye, Vos Papiers & 5 other anonymous) of Le scandale pédophile rebondit en Lituanie by @manhack.

The protesters who were camping 24/7 around the house that sheltered an 8-year-old girl, who accused her mother of forcing her to prostitute herself, ultimately could not prevent dozens of riot police from forcibly removing her, against her will, and returning her... to her mother.

I wrote about this last April, when demonstrators had decided to broadcast their protest live on the Internet, in order to prevent the police from taking the child away (see Un scandale pédophile enflamme le Net, et Anonymous).

Deimante Kedyt was 5 when she told her father how her mother - from whose he was separated - took her every weekend to meet men who penetrated her "everywhere". The "men"? A politician and a judge, among others. However, Lithuanian authorities refused to question the suspects, and instead charged Drasius Kedys, her father, who had published online videos of his daughter miming the various forms of sexual abuse to which she had allegedly been subjected.

A few months later, on October 2009, the judge was shot at, before the sister of Laimutė Stankūnaitė, Deimante mum's, also accused to prostitute her daughter. Next to her body a weapon, registered to a Drasius Kedys. The body of the latest was found on April 18th, 2010. Justice concludes to "natural death", but the family strongly believes that he was tortured and assinated, and yells at scandal.

Since then, the little girl lived at her father sister's home, another judge who has been later sanctioned for having broken judiciary ethics in helping her brother to write the complaint. Her house was protected, 24/7, by tens of Lithuanians holding a picket line around their house. The Lithuanian justice had decided, five months ago, to give back Deimante Kedyte, who is now 8, to her mum.

In the following coverage, dated from 2012, March 23rd, we can see the little girl calling her mother a "monster, liar", shouting her she hates her, clinging to her grandmother's arms, while her mother, with the help of several hooded policemen, tries to take her. After a few minutes of clash, strong but failed attempts, by the patrolmen, to bring the child, the attempt is dropped.

The justice has in fact precised that the child would not be "kidnapped" from her grandparents. But, as we can see, and as the implied recognizes it, the child was obviously ill-treated, physically and psychologically.

In the following video, dated at 2012, May 17th, we can see several tens of policemen evict, one by one, the protesters holding the picket line around the house to prevent the police from taking the child. Some leave with tearful eyes, as if they were blown with tear gas. An anti-riot squadron in Robocop's suits come as an enforcement, in order to repel evicted opponents, and to ease the extraction of those who protect the house, and the child.

All this time, inside the house, the social services representatives, surrounded by policemen, tried to explain the little girl that it was not her fault, that one day, she'll become adult, and would have the right to decide where she would like to live, but that for now, she should come back and live with her mother ; stubbornly she answered that she wanted to stay with her aunt and grandparents, and that she refused to leave (see transcription).

This other brief video shows the child's extraction, led by her mother and policemen, shielded with a bulletproof jackets under the sight of a crowd booing :

Associated Press speaks of 39 people arrested and imprisoned during the operation.

Andrius Kubilius, Lithuanian Prime Minister, defended the police operation by explaining that if lots of Lithuanians were against this extraction, the laws and Constitution of Lithuania should be respected.

The movie started to be distributed, and a demonstration was held in Vilnius, at Lithuania's president's, Dalia Grybauskaite residence. She explained several times that she wanted above all to defend the child's interests, and that any use of force would be ruled out.

The affair is widely relayed by Lithuanian press, many websites dedicated (kedys.lt oplithchild.org, oplithchild1.blogspot.fr), and thousands messages on Twitter, relay the Anonymous' #OpLithChild that, like protesters, and this petition, agree with the girl against her mother.

The latter has launched a website to claim her child back, and another to promote her version of these events. She gave some pressmen a video shot in her car with her daughter to show their good relationships (someone is needed for that translation).

As I wrote earlier, maybe we'll never know who tells the truth in this story. It might be thought surprising that the child's testimony is that left out, as the father's charges and, a contrario, by the institutional, administrative, and police violence used to bring back the child to her mother.
