Génie du ballon rond, Romario fait son entrée au Sénat. Affilié au Parti socialiste brésilien depuis 2009, il était déjà député fédéral de l'État de Rio depuis 2010. Il a fait campagne contre l'organisation du Mondial-2014 au Brésil.
