Style épuré, complètement étanche, 14 couches d’isolation thermique, sublimateur et boucles d'eau intégrés pour contrôler la température, réserve d’oxygène et système d'élimination du CO2, radio pour communiquer, ordinateur de vol sur le torse, poches d’hydratation, miroir rétroviseur sur le poignet (pour voir dans les angles morts), et j’en passe, le tout complété par un jet-pack sur le dos en cas de dérive dans le vide…

If you ask me these are the most iconic suits in history. NASA's Extravehicular Mobility Unit, lovingly called the EMU. A design classic, they were delivered in 1982, and commissioned before I was even born! They are probably the most complicated garment ever made but time and time again they just work. A miniature spacecraft in itself: it is airtight, has 14 layers of insulation, a sublimator and water loops for temperature control, oxygen supply and CO2 removal, radio communications, a flight computer on the chest, and more. All while allowing us to get the work done outside. Modelled here by Shane, Aki, Mark and myself, we were not invited to the MET gala, but these suits cannot be worn on Earth anyway (gravity makes them too heavy) how's that for exclusivity! :wink:
