New patent group threatens to derail 4K HEVC video streaming | Ars Technica

dimanche 26 juillet 2015 à 12:50
Yes, YES, GO AHEAD.
That new patent pool, HEVC Advance, wants to charge a royalty for H.265 (HEVC). Some big companies like Netflix will definitively be hit hard, but as it seems any individual using H.265 streaming could be charged.

This is just SOOOO PERFECT to limit H.265 adoption. You bet YouTube will NEVER take the risk to support H.265 (it can't even decode uploaded H.265 videos yet). Why am I happy ? Because it's good news for royalty-free video formats like Theora, VP8/9/10 and "Daala".
