Indian journalist Siddique Kappan was preparing to cover the case of a Dalit who was gang-raped and died, when the officials of Uttar Pradesh arrested him, accused him of one unrelated crime after another (including "terrorism"), and tortured him repeatedly.

He was released on bail after two years, but the charges are still pending.
