All consequences considered, organic farming can be more sustainable than conventional.

Since many of the benefits are long-term and for society as a whole, rather than for the farm in the short term, it is rational to pay organic farms a certain subsidy for providing them. That would help them increase and replace the farms that degrade the environment more.

But we should also work hard to encourage fewer births, around the world. A population of 9 billion humans is not inevitable.
