*UK government to allow new North Sea oil and gas exploration.*

This is supposedly in exchange for a promise by "industry" to cut its emissions by 50%. But which emissions would be cut? Only those by the fossil fuel businesses themselves, I suspect. Emissions by users of fossil fuels would probably increase a lot more than their emissions would decrease.
