Muslims condemn Islamist terrorism

vendredi 31 mars 2017 à 02:00

Muslims condemn Islamist terrorism, over and over and over.

The article's analogy between Muslims and inhabitants of Kent is flawed. No one commits terrorism in the name of Kent. If someone from Kent commits terrorism, that person's connection with Kent is an insignificant detail. However, some Muslims commit terrorism in the name of Islam, so the fact that they are Muslims is crucial. Likewise, some Christians commit terrorism in the name of Christianity, so the fact that they are Christians is crucial.

There is no reason for most Muslims to apologize for Islamist terrorism, since they are not responsible for it. However, it is very important for them to condemn Islamist terrorism, and political Islamism, because that will help steer confused and alienated Muslims away from Islamism and terrorism. It behooves us to highlight their frequently expressed condemnation rather than to deny its existence.

The same applies to Christians in regard to right-wing Christian terrorists. And if some people in Kent start to commit terrorism in the name of Kent, it will be imperative for everyone in Kent to denounce such terrorism.
