Female Islamic judges in India say that much of the inequality they suffer comes not from the Qur'an but from the way men habitually use it.

I am sure they know their subject, but I've read that some of the gender inequality in Islam does come from there. For instance, the rule that women's testimony is worth half a man's testimony.
