The plan to extend Heathrow Airport is accompanied by a supposed plan to "offset" the CO ₂ emissions.

Supposing the offsets actually work — which is hardly certain — this would be adequate if present-day emissions were at an acceptable level. But they are already far too high, and this won't reduce them.
