Ironically, the term was adopted because Dubya's officials ordered employees of some departments to stop saying "global warming". The term "climate change" makes it easy to duck the fact that the change, overall, is going in one specific direction.

Employees are still permitted to use the terms "global heating" and "climate mayhem", which give a clearer idea of what is really happening and what its results are likely to be.
