Taking religion too seriously can be fatal. A mother on trial for murdering her child offers the defense that this was a way to keep the child safe in heaven.

After she killed the child, she then tried to kill herself, convinced that she too would go to heaven.

What she did was entirely rational, taking belief in the afterlife a premise.

It sounds like she and her daughter were suffering greatly, enough to drive a person mad. So my condemnation is directed not at her personally, but at the religion that led her astray.
