The bully wants to shield employers from legal responsibility for workers' catching Covid-19 at work. Why would US workers want to sue their employers about this? I see two rational motives.

• Because treatment costs money and they can't afford it. Making treatment gratis for all would eliminate this motive.
• Because they experience working conditions that could encourage contagion. Workers who have no savings and no union will be unable to change such working conditions, except to sue.

It is impossible in general to determine whether a worker contracted Covid-19 at work or elsewhere, so I think a company should be responsible for maintaining working conditions that make transmission unlikely, according to a clear and adequate standard.

I don't expect Republicans to support that.
