The US government makes forecasts about future use of energy sources, and they repeatedly underestimate growth of renewable energy.

How much renewable energy is used in the future depends on government policy decisions. Thus, these forecasts are to some extent a self-fulfilling prophecy that we will stay on the road to disaster.
