That's true: by the "war on terror" and the "almighty USA acting to protect it's interests worldwide", the USA introduced a new foreign policy standard with notable disregard for Geneva conventions when it comes to war prisoners. But so far, Russia is much less brutal towards Ukraine than the USA was towards Iraq.

France uses quite different techniques (Libya, Mali, Central African Republic). Let's see: France doing airstrikes against Ukraine helping to kill Viktor Yanukovych, France fighting "terrorists" in Crimea by eventually landing soliders (worse than current Russia, but inverted), and France landing soldiers in Ukraine to try to stop pro-European and pro-Russian Ukrainians from a bloodbath (eventually implicitly supporting the pro-EU).
